Each search can feed into a later puzzle. An item from one part of the school may unlock a path or solve an obstacle elsewhere, so remember locked areas and unfinished objectives rather than repeatedly searching the same rooms.

Noise matters. Madeline and the other threats can hear you, and a rushed search can turn into a chase. Move carefully, listen before entering a corridor, and keep nearby hiding spots in mind. If danger finds you, hide or break line of sight instead of running into an unfamiliar dead end.

Crafting weapons gives you another option when avoiding an enemy is difficult, but the main loop remains exploration, puzzle solving, stealth, and survival. Unlock new sections of the school, collect what each puzzle needs, and keep working toward the escape.

• Learn return routes: Keep track of locked paths and puzzle locations so a newly found item has somewhere useful to go.
• Search without rushing: Enemy hearing makes careless movement risky, especially when you still need to finish an objective.
