Minesweeper is a logic puzzle where every click asks you to read the board before you commit. Open safe squares, use their numbers to locate nearby mines, and clear every non-mine tile without setting one off.
How to Play Minesweeper
Each opened number shows how many mines touch that square, including horizontal, vertical, and diagonal neighbors. Compare a clue with the unopened squares around it: when the nearby mine count is accounted for, the remaining squares are safe; when all remaining hidden neighbors must be mines, mark them.
Left-click an unopened square to reveal it. A mine ends the game immediately, while a safe square reveals either a number or an empty space. You win by opening every square that does not contain a mine, so flags are a tracking tool rather than the win condition.
The game has three difficulty levels. Faster times depend on making confident deductions without opening a suspected mine.
Practical Minesweeper Tips
- Read the whole neighborhood. A number only makes sense alongside every unopened and marked square touching it.
- Flag with purpose. Mark a square when the clues confirm it contains a mine; a flag helps prevent an accidental reveal.
- Use known mines to clear space. Once a clue’s mine count is fully marked, its other adjacent hidden squares can be treated as safe.
- Avoid blind guesses when a deduction remains. Check neighboring clues before choosing a square to open.
